Overview

The Intensivist Anesthesiologist of Anesthesiology service independently provides clinical anesthesia and critical care services to eligible veterans for both inpatients and outpatients. Services are provided at the Denver Medical Center, Eastern Colorado Health Care System located in Denver, CO.

The incumbent is required to:

* Interact not only with the veteran, but also family, significant others, community agencies, and other staff.

* Assists the Chief, Anesthesiology Service in carrying out the mission of the Service.

* Administers anesthesia and critical care alone or supervises physician’s in-training (residents) or certified registered nurse anesthetists.

* Examines the patient before and after anesthesia, writes pre- and post-anesthesia orders, and confirms that the patient is ready for anesthesia before induction.

* Manages the anesthetic period, and follows patients as long as is appropriate in the post-anesthesia period.

* In the Intensive Care Unit, he/she works closely with the other components of the care team including, but not limited to, surgeons, nurses, house staff, physical therapy, social workers.

* The attending anesthesiologist may be required to perform services in the operating room, in radiology, and in some special procedure areas.

 

Since attending anesthesiologists in the service are also faculty members of the University Of Colorado School Of Medicine, they are expected to contribute to the teaching needs of the Department of Anesthesiology. This may include, but is not limited to, preparing and delivering lectures, service as a preceptor, and providing one-on-one
instruction. Attending anesthesiologists as faculty members are also expected to contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the specialty by way of clinical and/or laboratory
